Last weekend Ruari and Georgina took their Level One assessment through Dog A.I.D, and passed! This assessment was basic obedience such a sit, down, stay, lead walking, door manners and body handling, their next level will be more advanced obedience and they must pass that before they can start training in shops and the like.
"I'm incredibly proud of Ruari (and myself!), I couldn't have asked for him to work harder." One year ago yesterday my Gold litter came into the world and what a year it has been. The puppies are blossoming into beautiful adults full of character and bringing joy to their owners lives. They have been on holidays, begun training for their future lives and much much more. Below is an update on the puppies. Kandi Height: 22in at the shoulder ( 56cm) Weight: 43lbs (19.4kg) Such a happy girl to train, always willing to learn..... people have commented on how grown up she now looks after her first season. Sammy Height : 23inches (58cm) Weight : 55lbs (25kg) What do you love most about your puppy? : Tough to say what I love most about him as there is so much! He's always so funny/ happy and up for some play and learning but maybe what I personally love the most is how loving and cuddly he can be and how much he enjoyed being close to us and other people he loves! Especially as we did not seem the cuddliest dog in the first few months we had him Proudest Moment : This is another hard one as there are so many! I guess it is how well he is doing in his Heelwork to music/ freestyle training despite his young age, and putting our first routine together which was not just so much fun but with Sammy incredibly funny! Pippin Height : 24 inches (60cm) Weight : 63lbs (28.8kg) What do you love most about your puppy? : When he walked up a mountain with us in Wales. Admittedly it was only a small one (Holyhead Mountain) but it was a wonderful day out and he had such a great time charging around. I'm also proud of him every day. He's had his moments where things have been hard for him (other dogs daring to bark at him!) but with time, patience and lots of treats we're continuing to make progress all the time. He is a wonderful boy and we're so lucky to have him Proudest Moment : How affectionate he is, he can spend an afternoon running around playing with the children or snuggle up on the sofa with me if I'm feel blue. He's always pleased to see you and will usually bring you one of his toys to start a game of tuggy. Ruari
Height : 25inches (63.5cms) Weight : 67lbs (30.4kg) What do you love most about your puppy? : I love so many things it's hard to choose, I love how much he loves to work and train yet how silly and dorky he isn't working. It has been lovely to have a dog who learns quickly, he is everything I dreamed of and more. He gives wonderful hugs too, a 30kg lap dog! Proudest Moment : Passing our initial dog A.I.D assessment and being almost ready to move to level 2 after just a couple of months training. In the past week or so Ruari has passed his Adult Beginners Obedience class and achieved his Intermediate Trick Dog title.
Here he is with his rosette and ribbon, well done Ruari. Massive well done to Carole, Kumi and Kandi who took their Good Citizen Bronze Tests on Monday and passed with flying colours. Thanks also to Claire for these beautiful pictures of the girls, hasn't Kandi grown into such a beautiful dog?
We are always so proud of our puppies and their new owners and we want to share those accomplishments with you all. Ruari has had 2 big moments recently, the first being that he earned his Novice Trick Dog title doing that means he can have the letters NTD after his name. Here he is with his ribbon and at the bottom of the post is the video of him earning his title, he had to complete 15 tricks and he did really well. He also is the first UK English Shepherd to earn a trick title! The second, and biggest, moment is that Ruari passed his initial assessment with Dog A.I.D this week. Passing this assessment means he can start training to become an assistance dog, there is still a very long way to go but he has crossed the first hurdle and we're very proud of him. The assessor was full of compliments for him and the way we raised him which is lovely to hear. Finally here is the video as promised! Whoops, naughty weblady forgot to do a blog post for the puppies 6 month birthday, they're almost 7 months old now. Here's an updated photo of each pup from around the 6 month mark, they've all blossomed into really lovely dogs and we can't believe how dark Izzy has got considering she was the lightest of them all! You might also remember that I did some videos following the pups from birth to 8 weeks old, I did another of Ruari from 8 weeks to 6 months, enjoy! Last weekend we got the boy puppies together at a local country park for the first time since they left us to go on to their new homes. It was wet and muddy but we had a blast, it was absolutely wonderful to see them together again.
It was also very interesting to see the variations in size and body type. Pippin was the biggest puppy when born but is now shorter and not as long as the others yet he weighs the same as Ruari, it appears he is taking after Kumis family who are shorter and stockier. Sammy wasn't far off the same height as Ruari but he wasn't as long and his ear carriage was very different to Ruari and Pippins. Ruari is now the tallest and longest, taking after his dad. Hopefully next time we get together the girls will be able to join us too. It has been almost 5 weeks since the puppies left and they are turning 3 months old tomorrow (13 weeks technically). Enjoy these updated pictures of each puppy! Kandi/Purple Sammy/Green Izzy/Black Pippin/Orange Ruari/Beige
8 weeks has flown by and our puppies are now old enough to fly the nest. I can't believe just how quickly this time has gone, it's completely unreal. As heart broken as I am to be saying goodbye to Sammy, Izzy and Pippin (although Izzy is staying another week with Carole) I can't wait to see your journeys and watch them thrive within your families. Both myself and Carole are so glad that we picked you to come on this journey with us, you're fantastic people who will do a fantastic job raising the next generation of English Shepherds. It was lovely to see them leave so happily with you, they didn't look back at all! I've had a couple of projects up my sleeve during these weeks, you all know I have been taking pictures of the puppies regularly, I mean how can you miss that news?! I have put these together with a song for each puppy. Kandis video is set to the song "Fields of Gold" by Eva Cassidy Sammys video is set to "Rise Like a Phoenix" by Conchita Wurst Izzys video is set to "Heart of Gold" by Neil Young Pippin, unfortunately I couldn't find a song relating to his kennel name so his video is set to "Everything That Glitters (Is Not Gold)" by Dan Seals. Ruaris video is set to "Golden Opportunity" by Ian Hunter Are you still with me? My final project, the one I'm most excited to share with you, over the past 8 weeks I have taken a short clip of video of most days of their lives and I have put them together for you all to watch them grow before your eyes. This video is set to "Golden Brown" by The Stranglers. |
