Is the English Shepherd for me?
Can you cope with.....
English Shepherds have a natural affinity with children and make fantastic family pets. They are gentle enough to live with cats and other small animals, but may try to herd your other pets if given the chance.
If these things don't put you off then please get in touch, come to meet us and Kumi! We won't instantly rule anyone out based on their work or family life, but please don't be offended if you feel we are interrogating you, we just want the best for our puppies.
- A dog who barks whenever someone comes to the house, or something strange happens
- A dog who needs plenty of mental and physical stimulation, but can turn its paw to every sport or job you need
- A dog who will become your shadow but could develop anxiety when left alone
- An intelligent dog. They learn quickly, both good and bad!
- A dog who thrives on routine
- A dog who likes rules and will enforce the rules you give it, some say they can be bossy
- A dog who will make its own rules if you don't lay down house rules
- A dog who reacts badly to being scolded, it is easy to hurt their feelings and lose their trust.
- A dog who is a joker when it's not working (and sometimes when it should be!)
- A long commitment, the English Shepherd can live in to its teens
- An unknown breed, the English Shepherd community has prioritised working ability over anything else so testing and record keeping is still in the early stages. It is also still very rare in the UK and unknown by most people.
