In 2012 the Edenvillage 'D' Litter was born, and in that litter was a tiny bundle of fluff later to be known as Kumi. Kumi and I have had our ups and downs, as many English Shepherd owners will agree a teenage English Shepherd can be very intense, loud, and hyperactive and their guarding instinct suddenly appears. It has taken hard work and perseverance but Kumi has grown into a beautiful, loving, well rounded dog.
Kumi has proven just how intelligent the English Shepherd can be after excelling in competitive obedience winning 5 out of her 6 first novice classes at just 2 years old. She’s a sensitive soul who will shut down if pressured and stressed, but if you let her progress slowly the reward is incredible. Kumi still needs to learn some self-control, but this is improving at an incredible pace.
She has, like many English Shepherds, taken on the role of rule enforcer in the home. She will stick to any rule that I set out and will make sure the other dogs stick to these rules too, while being firm but fair. Once the transgressor backs down all is forgiven and life carries on as it was. She also took on the role of carer and protector when Katie, sadly no longer with us, became ill ensuring that the other dogs respected her space and needs.
That said she is so loving and just wants to greet everyone that she comes across. She will squirm herself on to your lap and smother you in licks, nothing escapes that tongue!
I have no doubt that when the time comes she will make an absolutely incredible mother and pass her amazing personality and intelligence on to her pups.
