Today myself, Carole and Kumi made the journey to Ashridge Estate, a lovely National Trust park in a stunning setting (plus a cafe with cake yum!), to meet with Monty and his owner Katie, Shae (Rusty the spaniel) and their owner Nicola. It was lovely to see three shining examples of the breed together and I think they won over every member of public they came across! We all came away muddy and damp but the dogs had a whale of a time running around in the beautiful English countryside.

Last weekend Carole and Kumi took part in the first Class Championships. In Obedience there are 6 classes which are Pre-Beginner, Beginner, Novice, A, B and finally C. At the end of each competition the scores are counted and the top 5 in a class are "placed" and receive a rosette. Eventually you are able to move up to the next class by "winning out", the amount of wins needed to move up varies depending on the class. The class championships were open to anyone who had won once and had two other places in a class but had not won a place in the class above. Kumi has won 5 novice classes and placed in 1 other, she has moved up to A but as she's not won in the A class she was able to enter the champs in Novice class. At the Championships there were 2 novice classes, Carole and Kumi did really well and were placed 4th in their class! As there were two novice classes the top 5 from each class then had to compete against each other, this is called a run off. Both 1st place winners battled for 1st and 2nd place, the second place winners battled for 3rd and 4th and so on. Carole and the other 4th place winner both did really well but unfortunately Kumi lost just a couple of points so they were eventually placed 8th out of all the novice dogs in the UK, not bad! Dave Banks, who owns Abbie (kennel club name Edenvillage Brightstar), helped organise the class championships and had this to say about Kumi "Just back from 3 days away part organising the first ever Obedience Class Championships at the Kennel Club halls in Stoneleigh, Warwickshire.Carole Hanney and Kumi (Edenvillage Diamond) were there having qualified a few times over so well done to them on just doing that. Towards the end of the day a run off between the top placed dogs meant that Carole and Kumi had to do another full round under even greater pressure to gain a place in the final line up. Luckily I had time to watch the run off and WOW, what a great display of competitive obedience it was. Well done Carole and Kumi. Worth waiting for puppies if anyone's in mind to have one Kumi is a really strong girl now and after this weekends showing, by next year she'll be even better." We're all really pleased with how Kumi worked, she's such a star and is a head turner! That is the last competition that Kumi will be taking part in this year, next year we hope she can make progress in A class before she has her puppies. Keep your eyes on the blog, this weekend we're off to an English Shepherd meet up and I'm sure I'll have lots of photos to share. Thank you Susan Henshaw for the photos!
Last month we met a family who are on our waiting list for a puppy. They're a lovely family and by the end of a walk I think they were all in love with Kumi (who can blame them!). The kids had a whale of a time playing ringy, they even managed to wear Kumi out! |
